Max Headroom is a British-produced American satirical science fiction television series that ran on ABC from March 1987 to May 1988. It was created by Chrysalis Visual Programming and Lakeside Productions for Lorimar-Telepictures. Max Headroom: 20 Minutes into the Future, a Channel 4 British TV pilot produced by Chrysalis, was the inspiration for the series. Because of the setting and the fact that it is shown on the ABC network in the United States, the series is frequently mistaken for an American production. The UK pilot was followed by a six-week run of highlights from The Max Headroom Show, a music video show in which Headroom appears in between music videos, on Cinemax. The pilot piqued ABC's curiosity, and the network approached Chrysalis/Lakeside to create the series for American audiences. The show premiered in late 1986 and lasted six episodes in its first season, followed by eight in season two.
