Cymbeline's judgment is impaired due to her sadness over the deaths of her two children. Cymbeline exiles Posthumus after Innogen, the sole surviving heir, secretly marries her sweetheart. A power-hungry individual intends to steal the kingdom by assassinating the king and queen. In an act of irrational jealousy, Innogen's husband, who is in exile, devises a plan to have her assassinated after being duped into believing she has been unfaithful.
