The Smile Has Left Your Eyes

A detective is having second thoughts about continuing in his line of work. He gets involved in the investigation of a female college student's slaying that was covered up as a suicide. The investigation consumes the detective to the point of obsession. There is a younger sister in the family, and she gets involved with a man. The individual is unable to recall his childhood in any detail. She feels sorry for him despite the fact that he is not a very good person. The investigator makes an effort to coax the suspect away from his younger sibling. The investigator has a hunch that the man is complicit in some way with the fatal stabbing of the female college student. A relationship develops between the man and the younger sister of the detective.
