"The Knick" takes place in the heart of New York City in the year 1900 and focuses on the Knickerbocker Hospital and the pioneering surgeons, nurses, and staff members who work there. These individuals push the boundaries of medicine at a time when mortality rates were astonishingly high and there were no antibiotics. Despite the fact that he has a hidden cocaine addiction, John Thackery is a talented surgeon who is developing innovative new approaches in the area.
