The Jetsons is a Hanna-Barbera animated sitcom that aired in primetime from 1962 to1963, and then as part of the weekday/weekend morning programming block dubbed The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera until 1987. From 1984 until 1987, new episodes were also created. It was the Space Age analogue to The Flintstones from Hanna-Barbera. Boomerang frequently shows reruns. While the Flintstones live in a world driven by birds and dinosaurs, the Jetsons live in a futuristic utopia of intricate robotic contraptions, aliens, holograms, and wacky inventions in the year 2062. The original series aired on ABC on Sunday nights beginning September23,1962, with primetime reruns running until September8, 1963. It was the first program ever broadcast in color on ABC-TV when it debuted. The Flintstones, on the other hand, was always produced in color but only aired in black-and-white for the first two seasons. Following its primetime run, the sitcom aired on Saturday mornings for decades, first on ABC in 1963-64 and then on CBS and NBC in subsequent seasons.
