Brandon, who is Stef Foster's biological son from a previous marriage, and Mariana and Jesus, who are the couple's adopted twins, are all a part of the tight-knit, loving family that has been built by the devoted police officer Stef Foster and her partner, the vice principal of the school Lena Adams. When Lena meets Callie, a hardened adolescent with a history of abusive relationships who has spent her entire life moving from foster family to foster home, their lives are upended in unforeseen ways. Callie and her brother Jude are invited to stay with Lena and Stef, even though the hosts have the impression that they will only be there for a short period of time until a more permanent arrangement can be made for them. However, life has other plans for the Fosters that they must adapt to.
