Star Blazers

Star Blazers is an American animated television series based on the Japanese anime series Space Battleship Yamato I, II, and III. Star Blazers first aired in the United States in 1979. It was notable for being the first popular English-translated anime with an overarching plot and storyline that needed the episodes to be viewed in order. It dealt with more sophisticated subjects than other productions at the time aimed for the same target audience. As a result, future arc-based, plot-driven anime translations were prepared.
