Smash

The American playwright Theresa Rebeck and the television producer Robert Greenblatt are responsible for the creation of the television series Smash, which is a musical drama. One of the executive producers was Steven Spielberg, who also contributed to the production. The series was created by DreamWorks Television and Universal Television, and NBC was the network that was responsible for airing it in the United States. The plot of the series centers on a made-up theater community in New York City and, more especially, the production of a new musical on Broadway. A big ensemble cast is included, with the likes of Debra Messing, Jack Davenport, Katharine McPhee, Christian Borle, Megan Hilty, Jeremy Jordan, and Anjelica Huston taking the lead roles. On February 6, 2012, the show made its premiere, and on May 14, 2012, the first season of the show came to a conclusion. On February 5, 2013, the premiere of the show's second and last season took place, and it concluded on May 26, 2013. NBC made an announcement in March 2013 regarding a change in their programming, and the show was relocated to Saturdays beginning on April 6, 2013. On May 10, 2013, the series was definitively taken off the air. Josh Safran, executive producer and show runner for the second and final season, has stated that the final episode of the second season could serve as the series finale in the event that the program is not renewed. The series, and in especially the first episode, received positive reviews from many media outlets. The first season was nominated for a total of four Primetime Emmy Awards, and it was awarded one of them for Outstanding Choreography. In addition, the series was up for a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy as well as a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media. Both of these awards were considered for but did not win.
