Saints & Strangers

Saints & Strangers reveals the struggles and tribulations of the 102 men, women, and children who went on a hired ship for a country they had never seen. Half of this group are pilgrims or saints, religious separatists who gave up their previous lives for a single cause: religious liberty. The merchant adventurers, often known as strangers, were less spiritual and more materialistic in their goals. This mismatch of values caused the group to struggle internally as they attempted to build a new colony, which was exacerbated by a tense relationship with the neighboring Native American tribes. Conflicting allegiances among various communities resulted in assimilation, faith, and compromise trials that continue to characterize our country today.
