Queer as Folk

The British TV show Queer as Folk, which started in 1999, is about the lives of three gay men who live in Manchester's gay village around Canal Street. Russell T. Davies wrote both the first Queer as Folk and the second one. As part of Channel 4's 25th birthday celebrations, the first series was shown again on More 4 from October 14 to 18. The Red Production Company made Queer as Folk on Channel 4. The name of the show comes from a Northern English dialect phrase, "there's nowt so queer as folk," which means "there's nothing as strange as people." This is a play on the modern English word "queer," which means gay. Davies originally called the show this, but Channel 4 executives suggested that it be called "Queer as Fuck," so it was called that for a while before going back to its original name.
