Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal is a Canadian science fiction drama television series that broadcast 88 episodes over four seasons from 1996 to2000. It was shot in and around Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The appearance of Dan Aykroyd opening and closing each episode and underlining the validity of the organization it was inspired by prompted some viewers to take the show more seriously than intended, despite the fact that it was a staged drama. Partly for this reason, Aykroyd received a "Snuffed Candle" award from the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, then known as the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal, in 1997, for "contributing to the public's lack of understanding of the methods of scientific inquiry."
