Monsters is a syndicated horror anthology series that aired on the Sci-Fi Channel from 1988 to 1991. Monsters airs in intermittent weekday marathons on NBC Universal's horror/suspense-themed cable channel Chiller as of 2011. Monsters, like Tales from the Darkside, was produced by the same person and, in some respects, succeeded the show. It did, however, differ in some ways. While Tales occasionally dabbled in science fiction and fantasy, this series was strictly horror. Monsters, as the name implies, featured a different monster in each episode, ranging from an artificial puppet from a fake children's television program to mutant, weapon-wielding lab rodents. Monsters' stories, like Tales', were rarely plain action narratives and frequently featured some sarcastic twist in which a character's vanity or greed would do him in, often with horrible repercussions. A sense of humour, which may have lightened the mood of the audience in some circumstances but often added to the overall eerieness of the show, was added to this.
