Mad Dogs

Mad Dogs is a Cris Cole-created British black humor and psychological thriller television series that debuted on Sky1 on February 10, 2011. Left Bank Pictures produced it, while Palma Pictures co-produced it. The series stars John Simm, Marc Warren, Max Beesley, and Philip Glenister as four middle-aged pals who gather in a Majorcan villa to celebrate their friend Alvo's early retirement. However, once Alvo is murdered, the group is drawn into a world of crime and police corruption. The series began as a story about a rock band, but it was changed after it became apparent that bands had been "done to death." Following interest from certain terrestrial networks, British Sky Broadcasting ordered the series. The filming took place on location on the island of Majorca in May 2010 and cost roughly four million euros and 44 days to complete. The key themes are friendship and growing older; Glenister stated that song is about growing older and "coming closer to death." David LaChapelle, a photographer, directed three 30-second commercials for the series. Mad Dogs premiered with 1.61 million viewers, making it Sky1's 17th highest-rated program ever, and received excellent reviews from reviewers. They noticed parallels to British gangster flicks, particularly the 2000 picture Sexy Beast.
