La Femme Nikita was a Canadian action/drama television series based on Luc Besson's French blockbuster Nikita. Jay Firestone of Fireworks Entertainment and Warner Bros. co-produced the series. Joel Surnow adapted it for television. The series premiered on the USA Network cable channel in North America on January 13, 1997, and lasted five seasons until March 2001. The series was also broadcast on the CTV Television Network in Canada. During its first two seasons, La Femme Nikita was the highest-rated drama on American basic cable. It was also distributed in a few other countries, and it still has a cult following.
