Kavanagh QC

This British series, Kavanagh QC, aired on ITV from 1995 to 2001 and was produced by Central Television. It airs frequently on ITV3, and seasons 1–6 may be found on DVD in Region 2. John Thaw played the lead role of barrister James Kavanagh QC on the show, who grew up in a working-class family in Bolton, Greater Manchester. It isn't until his parents' health begins to decline and he has an exchange with a coworker who thinks Kavanagh is actually from Yorkshire that we learn this. The show covered not just his legal fights but also his personal tragedies, such as the loss of his loving and dedicated wife. In later years, he starts dating one of his fellow lawyers. Sometimes Kavanagh is on the other side of the courtroom, prosecuting, but most of the time he is defending a client who is on the verge of conviction. Kavanagh is frequently at the center of the main plot, which involves his dealing with situations tinged with racism, sexism, and other forms of prejudice. Subplot humor was provided by Jeremy, a pompous and self-absorbed barrister in chambers. Kavanagh is unfazed by his opponents' threats or bribes, and he never tolerates wrongdoing.
