Julia
Julia is a popular American sitcom that was one of the first to portray an African American woman in a non-stereotypical character. Previously, African American lead characters appeared in television shows, but they were usually servants. Diahann Carroll stars in the sitcom, which aired on NBC for 86 episodes from September17, 1968 to March23, 1971. Savannah Productions, Inc., Hanncar Productions, Inc., and 20th Century-Fox Television collaborated on the series' production. Mama's Man was the working title during pre-production. The series was also noteworthy in that it was one of the few late-sixties situation comedies without a laugh track; however, when it was released for syndication and cable rebroadcasts in the late 1980s, 20th Century-Fox Television inserted them.
