It's been seven years since Eva Thörnblad's daughter Josefine vanished into the woods near a lake. The girl was presumed to have drowned, as the body was never located. Thörnblad is now looking into the disappearance of a young boy to see whether there's any connection. He developed an empire of lumber and timber processing on an enormous forest held by his forebears, and now his daughter, Johan Thörnblad, will be responsible for preserving his heritage. One kidnapping after another is shown to be part of a nefarious scheme that begins as a simple police procedural but quickly transforms into something far more evil.
