Janus

The Australian drama television series Janus was produced in 1994 and 1995 and shown on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in those years. Two different series, with a combined total of 26 episodes, were created. The Phoenix television show inspired the creation of the spin-off series Janus, which aired on ABC. Janus follows the bitterly fought prosecutions of a notorious criminal family, the Hennesseys, from the viewpoints of the family, the police, and, in particular, the lawyers, prosecutors, barristers, and judges involved in all aspects of the story. This fictional account is loosely based on the true story of Melbourne's Pettingill family and the Walsh Street police shootings. At the beginning of the series, four members of the infamous Hennessey dynasty are found not guilty of the shooting deaths of two young law enforcement officers during a botched bank robbery. The brothers Mal and Steve, along with their brother-in-law Darren Mack and their friend Ken Hardy, walk free, which leaves the city of Melbourne in a state of shock. Many of the prosecutors, judges, magistrates, and police officers in the show are heavily based on real-life legal officials, and they are resolute in their pursuit of putting the Hennessey members in jail if at all possible. However, the process of putting the organization behind bars has been complicated by factors such as political corruption, gaps in the law, lengthy delays, and a lack of available resources.
