A youngster who goes by the name HIM, who is 17 years old and locked in the limbo between childhood and adulthood, is also caught in the limbo between the two homes of his divorced parents, each of whom has now remarried and started new families. As is the case with most boys, he has difficulty processing his emotions, which leads to his having a tendency to "act out." But his behavior is also prompted by something else, which is his fundamental effort to suppress the horrifying secret of a magical power that he received from his grandpa. This struggle causes him to act in a way that is inconsistent with his usual self. A power that is only understood by his elderly grandmother, who admonishes him to use his gift only for 'good,' because she is aware that if he does not, it will lead to disaster.
