From 1971 to1982, Germany's ZDF network broadcast a pop music program titled "Disco." Typically, it broadcast on the first Saturday of every month at 7:30 p.m., and each episode lasted 45 minutes. There were 133 productions. Ilja Richter, a German comedian and actor, hosted the program. Its predecessor, 4-3-2-1 Hot & Sweet, aired on ZDF from 1966 to1970, with Ilja Richter and Suzanne Doucet serving as hosts. Compared to ZDF's Hitparade, Disco often catered to a younger, more pop-oriented audience, and until1972, Beat-Club and Musikladen, both on ARD, were its primary competitors. Since1984, ZDF Musikkanal has played repeats of Disco, after 3sat ceased broadcasting the genre in 1989. Since2004, the complete series has been repeated on the ZDF Theaterkanal digital channel. In2007, ZDF Dokukanal began airing reruns, beginning with episodes from1975, and several replays of the series have been broadcast on hit24 since 2008. International pop music and German Schlager were given almost the same amount of play on the show, which centered on current chart toppers. Despite its name, it was not particularly focused on disco music, however it did feature numerous disco tunes as long as they were chart-relevant.
