Denn Coil, Coil— A Circle of Children, is a Japanese science fiction anime television series that depicts a near future in which semi-immersive augmented reality technology has just begun to become common. The story is set in the fictitious city of Daikoku, a hub of augmented reality (AR) development with a developing citywide virtual infrastructure. It follows a group of children as they employ augmented reality glasses and a range of illegal software tools, tactics, and virtual pets to influence the digital world in order to discover the mysteries of a metropolis that is half real and half virtual. Mitsuo Iso, a Japanese animator, makes his directorial debut with Denn Coil, a series that has been in development for over a decade. It debuted on NHK Educational Television on 12 May 2007. Denn Coil was greatly anticipated as a result of the animators involved in its creation and its unusually prominent television broadcast time slot.
