Norihiro Yagi is the creator of the Claymore manga series, which features dark fantasy stories and illustrations. The first episode of the series was published in the May 2001 edition of the manga magazine Monthly Shonen Jump, which has since ceased publication. When the magazine was discontinued in June2007, the series was provisionally transferred to Weekly Shonen Jump, where it continued to be published on a monthly basis. In November 2007, when Jump Square was first released, the serial was transferred to it. Shueisha publishes the individual chapters in collections referred to as tankbon volumes; as of December2012, there have been 23 volumes issued. The first eleven volumes of the book were adapted by Madhouse into an anime series consisting of twenty-six episodes. The series, which was first broadcast on NTV in Japan on April3, 2007 and continued to air there until September25,2007, was directed by Hiroyuki Tanaka. The soundtrack CD for the anime series was released on July25,2007, while a CD of character songs featuring the anime voice actresses was made available on September27,2007. Both of these CDs were released in 2007. Viz Media has been granted a license to adapt the Claymore manga into an English-language version for release in North America. On April4,2006, it published the first volume of the series, and as of November6,2012, it had published a total of 21 volumes in the series. Funimation Entertainment holds the rights for the anime adaptation's release in North America. The company has already distributed the first DVD in the series, which was published in the fall of2008, and has distributed the complete series on Blu-ray, which was distributed in the spring of 2010. The anime has been granted a license for distribution in Australia and New Zealand by Madman Entertainment, and Manga Entertainment has obtained a sub-licence to distribute the anime in the United Kingdom.
