In Bottom, Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson star as socially awkward, sexually inexperienced Richie Richard and carefree alcoholic Eddie Hitler, two social outcasts who live on the dole in a squalid flat in Hammersmith, London. Bottom is an anarchic sitcom written by Mayall and Edmondson and starring Mayall and Edmondson. With no money, they spend their days arguing and squabbling, scheming and being mean to each other. It aired on BBC Two from 1991 to 1995 for three seasons before being adapted for the stage, screen, and the big screen as the feature film Guest House Paradiso. Chaos, nihilism, and slapstick violence characterize the program. A BBC poll in 2008 ranked Bottom as the 45th best sitcom in the country. Since it was first broadcast on Gold and Dave in the UK, it has also been dubbed into other languages. The show broadcast on Canal+ in Spain under the title La pareja basura. The Bum Notes, a band that originally featured Edmondson, contributed the theme music, which is a cover of "Last Night" by The Mar-Keys. It was announced in 2012 that Richie and Eddie from Bottom would appear in a BBC spin-off series called Hooligan's Island. However, the project was scrapped in October of that year because Edmondson stated that he wanted to concentrate on other projects.
