The British sitcom Birds of a Feather debuted on BBC One in 1989 and aired there until 1998. Beginning in 2013, the show has been airing on ITV. It was conceived by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, who also wrote parts of the episodes together with a large number of other authors. It starred Pauline Quirke, Linda Robson, and Lesley Joseph. Other writers contributed to the writing of the episodes. Sisters Tracey Stubbs and Sharon Theodopolopodos are brought together in the first episode after their respective husbands are convicted of armed robbery and sentenced to prison for their crimes. Sharon, who formerly resided in an Edmonton council flat, relocates to Chigwell, Essex, to take up residence in Tracey's luxurious home. Dorien Green, their next-door neighbor and subsequently a friend, is a middle-aged married lady who is continually having relationships with younger men. She lives in the house next door to them. The subsequent seasons take place in Hainault, which was previously a different locale. After 9 years on the air, the series was cancelled on Christmas Eve 1998. The legendary comedy was rumored to be making a comeback on March 3, 2009, when it was revealed in The Mirror that Lesley Joseph, Pauline Quirke, and Linda Robson had all been invited by the people behind the sitcom to make another season of the show. This news was published in The Mirror. According to the report, Quirke stated that they were ready for the task if the writers could come up with some interesting concepts. After all of this talk about a possible comeback in the beginning of 2009, nothing further was revealed. However, in July of 2012, Lesley Joseph dropped hints that after a successful stage tour, Birds of a Feather would come back for another season.
