Asylum

In 1996, the British comedy series Asylum was aired on the Paramount Comedy Channel in the United States. The show, which took place in a psychiatric hospital, consisted of one season with six episodes. In contrast to conventional comedies or comedy television shows, this program featured a combination of stand-up comedy routines performed by a number of comedians and an overarching narrative that had a significant amount of dark humor. It is notable for the participation of a huge number of British comedians, many of whom have since gone on to work on some of the most successful comedy programs of the past ten years. This is one of the reasons why it is remarkable. It was the first time that Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Jessica Stevenson would work together, and their subsequent collaboration would result in the cult sitcom Spaced. There was a significant amount of name similarity between the characters and the actors that played them. David Devant and His Spirit Wife served as the "house band" for the show, and they contributed performances to each episode drawn from their debut studio album, titled Work, Lovelife, Miscellaneous. The program's title was "Ginger," which was the first track played when the show started. The whole episodes of the series can be viewed on Norman Lovett's website; however, the DVD release of the series has not yet taken place.
