A Different World

A Different World is an American sitcom that aired for six seasons on NBC. It is a spin-off of The Cosby Show and was originally about Denise Huxtable and the students at Hillman College, a made-up but historically black college in the state of Virginia. After Bonet left at the end of the first season, the rest of the series focused more on Southern belle Whitley Gilbert and math genius Dwayne Wayne. Members of the most important historically black fraternities and sororities were often shown on the show. Even though it was a spin-off of The Cosby Show, A Different World usually talked about things that The Cosby Show didn't. One episode from 1990 was one of the first ones on American network TV to talk about the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
