Mr. Phiffer, played by Jerry Lewis, has no idea that his girlfriend, Barbara, is the Tuttle Department Store's heir apparent. Barbara's mother, Mrs. Tuttle, is desperate to separate the two lovers, so she pays Norman to humiliate him to the point that Barbara would no longer be interested in him.
