In a 1955 Chevy Bel-Air coupe, a driver and mechanic travel across the United States, hopping from drag strip to drag strip. They compete for money by betting against each other. A young and chatty female stowaway joins the pair. They unintentionally attract a well-to-do drifter driving a new Pontiac GTO along the way.
