Wanda and Ivan Cavalli, newlyweds from a small hamlet, begin their honeymoon in Rome, the capital city of Italy. Wanda is only interested in meeting her favorite photo-strip star, "The White Sheik," despite Ivan's desire to honor his obligations to his family and church. While Wanda impetuously runs away to find the object of her affections, Ivan does his best to maintain appearances with the couple's extended family.
