Sometime in the distant future, paraplegic jail convict Matt Mills meets "The Board" of Satoshi-Telefair Industries, who applaud him for joining the Program. Mills accepts to volunteer under duress and with the promise of forcing him to walk again. He is injected with a synthetic nanomaterial and smothered, only to awaken with recovered use of his legs, alone in a steel chamber in the first spoke of an experimental contraption - The Wheel. Mills' body is wounded and his mind is tortured by a slew of assailants, but the synthetic nanomaterial not only heals his damaged organs, but it also re-engineers his strength. Mills is determined to survive the experiment and return to his daughter before The Board does.
