A young woman (Sandra Bullock) inexplicably vanishes, prompting her lover Jeff (Kiefer Sutherland) to spend years searching for her. Even a new love (Nancy Travis) cannot deter him from his compulsion. The psychopath who kidnapped Jeff's girlfriend (Jeff Bridges) hunts Jeff, ultimately leading him through the exact same processes that led to the crime.
