The Summit
'The Summit' is a 2012 documentary film directed by Nick Ryan about the 2008 K2 incident. Using documentary footage and dramatic recreations of the 2008 K2 accident, it tells the story of the expedition. On the journey to and from the summit, eleven climbers perished in a short period of time, resulting in one of the biggest catastrophes in the history of mountaineering. Swedish mountaineer Fredrik Sträng provided the majority of the documentary material. After failing to reach the top, Sträng had planned to make a documentary, but his plans were scrapped when he realized he would not make it. Despite the fact that each climber had a different version of what happened, the footage was nonetheless useful in determining what truly happened.
