What will people remember us by? On a distant island, Neal MacGregor, an English artist, died alone, at 44, in a stone hen-house he couldn't stand up in, without running water or electricity. During his 8 years on the gradually depopulating island, Gaelic-speaking inhabitants knew little about Neal. Who was he? Was he, as some feared, a British spy recording IRA gun-running routes? Was he aiming to seize the island? Was he truly insane? Or did he seek solitude? A guy living on the brink, physically and intellectually, Neal left behind volumes of wonderfully painted notebooks and hidden journals, and this gorgeous enigmatic film compassionately portrays a portrait of a man living on the edge, literally and emotionally.
