As a result of his dissatisfaction with the hustling and bustling of New York City, as well as the suffocating norms of late Eisenhower-era America, itinerant journalist Paul Kemp travels to the idyllic island of Puerto Rico to write for a tiny newspaper managed by the downtrodden editor Lotterman. With his rum-soaked lifestyle, Paul quickly becomes embroiled with a very gorgeous American woman and her fiancé who is involved in questionable real estate development dealings in the late 1950s adaptation of Hemingway's 'The Lost Generation.' Kemp ultimately realizes his own voice as a writer and his integrity as a man when immersed in this world.
