The end of the war means that Lloyd Hart goes back to being a lawyer, George Hally goes back to running a saloon, and Eddie Bartlett, who was out of work, becomes a taxi driver. This is how Eddie built a fleet of taxis: He delivered bootleg liquor to people and then hired Lloyd to be his lawyer. George becomes Eddie's partner, and the rackets grow until love and rivalry get in the way.
