Former police sergeant Leo Barnes has been promoted to the position of head of security for Senator Charlene Roan, the leading candidate for the next presidential election due to her promise to abolish the Purge. Barnes made the decision not to kill the man who was responsible for the death of his son two years ago. A betrayal from within the government on the evening of the Purge that was supposed to be the final one drives Barnes and Roan out onto the street, where they are forced to fight to survive the night.
