Tom Thompson, a young aspiring architect, is informed by the enigmatic Ruth Abernathy that his best buddy, "Bill," has committed suicide by hanging himself. Except for the fact that Tom has never met Bill, and neither have his skeptic-like companions. As a result, when Tom agrees to deliver the eulogy at Bill's funeral, he puts himself in the path of Ruth, who turns up to be Bill's overly sexualized mother, and Tom's old infatuation Julie DeMarco, whom he hasn't seen since their teenage years.
