Felix Ungar recently divorced his wife. Despondent, he attempts suicide but is saved by his friend Oscar Madison. Oscar encourages Felix to move in with him for the time being because he has nowhere else to go. The only issue is that Felix is neat, tidy, and neurotic, whereas Oscar is sloppy and careless.
