Major Ben Marco experiences terrifying dreams years after his squad was ambushed during the Gulf War. He begins to question whether his former squadmate, now a vice-presidential candidate, Sergeant Raymond Shaw, is the hero he remembers him to be. Shaw's political power grows as Marco's concerns intensify, and when Marco discovers a mystery implant implanted in his back, he begins to recall what actually occurred.
