The Man Who Shook the Hand of Vicente Fernandez

Reverend Rex is an elderly gentleman who is resentful of having never achieved fame and of having led a life devoid of significance and purpose. Following a stroke, he is admitted to a nursing home staffed entirely by Latin American immigrants. He is put off by the circumstances and spends his time and energy trying to get out, which puts him at odds with the Latino workers. It is revealed that he has previously shaken hands with Vicente Fernandez, a Mexican musician, producer, and actor who is idolized throughout Latin culture, which gives their relationship a new dimension. Rex's coworkers soon begin to treat him as if he is the celebrity that he has always wanted to be.
