The Love of Jeanne Ney
The Reds and Whites are still engaged in combat in the Crimea, and Jeanne learns that the man she loves is a Bolshevik (when he kills her father). She travels back to Paris, where she works for her uncle, penniless. Andreas, her lover, arrives in France shortly after to plan the sailors' meeting at Toulon. Khalibiev, a robber, traitor, and libertine who seeks to seduce Jeanne, is also one of these. Jeanne and Andreas are on the verge of catastrophe due to his plans, their naivety, and a missing diamond.
