Ancient China is in turmoil during the warring period of the three kingdoms. General Cao Cao (Jiang Wen), the real power behind the Emperor, enlists the help of the greatest warrior in the land, Guan Yu, to unite the country (Donnie Yen). Guan Yu, on the other hand, is a loyal friend of Cao Cao's enemy Liu Bei (Alex Fong), so in order to persuade the peerless warrior to fight, Cao Cao kidnaps his beloved Qi Lan (Sun Li). Guan Yu sets out with Qi Lan to rejoin Liu Bei after leading Cao Cao's forces to victory. But now Cao Cao has deemed him too dangerous to live, and he must face all the forces dispatched by the Emperor to destroy him on the journey.
