At the turn of the 20th century, the ruthless, wealthy Hubbard clan lives in and poisons a part of the deep South where they live. Regina Giddons née Hubbard has her daughter under her thumb. Mrs. Giddons is no longer close to her husband, who is getting better in Baltimore but has a terminal illness. But she needs him at home and will use her daughter to help get him back. She is making a sneaky business deal with her two older brothers, Oscar and Ben. Oscar has a flighty, unhappy wife and a dishonest worm for a son. Will the daughter have to marry this terrible cousin? Who will she turn out to be, her mother or her aunt? Or can she escape the fates of both?
