1917 in Palestine. The Turkish line that runs from Gaza to Beersheba has halted the British advance. The latest assault on Gaza was unsuccessful. The Light Horse regiment of Australian mounted soldiers was among the invading forces. Lighthorseman Frank sustains injuries during a battle with Bedouin. He is replaced by a young soldier named Dave, who displays excellent shooting ability but is hesitant to fire at the opposition. At the time of a German biplane attack, Dave shows his mettle. He meets Anne, a compassionate nurse, when he is recovering in the hospital. A daring flanking attack on Beersheba will require the regiment. But how can you persuade the Turks that Gaza will be the target of the main attack? And without water, how do you strike across a desert?
