With his mobster boss on trial for murder, a mob member known as "the Teacher" warns Annie Laird she must convince her fellow jurors to return a not-guilty decision or he will kill her son Oliver. She accomplishes this, but as it becomes apparent that the mobsters may wish to silence her permanently, she sends Oliver abroad to gather proof of the plot against her, setting up a final confrontation.
