The Island of Lies

Northern Spain, Galicia, on January 2, 1921. The steamer Santa Isabel, carrying almost two hundred emigrants for Argentina, sinks off the shore of Sálvora Island. Three island women, Mara, Josefa, and Cipriana, who courageously set sail on a flimsy skiff to rescue the stranded, are hailed as heroes by the cynical authorities; nevertheless, León, an inquisitive and tenacious Argentine journalist, begins to explore difficult issues.
