The Inland Sea
In 1971, author and film scholar Donald Richie released a poetic travelogue regarding his expeditions of the islands of Japan's Inland Sea, recording his search for traces of a typical way of living along with his own journey of self-discovery. Twenty years later on, filmmaker Lucille Carra embarked on a parallel trip motivated by Richie's by-then-classic publication, catching photos of hushed beauty and meeting individuals who still carried on the fading personalizeds that Richie had actually observed.
