For the past two decades, François, a twenty-year-old social outcast, has been collecting boxes and bottles for resale at local shops. His mother and stepfather are both callous and unsympathetic, and he is forced to live with them. Because of the peculiar way she shows her affection, 11-year-old Mado is ostracized by her family. François kidnaps Mado and takes her to live with him in the attic of his parents' house for reasons that never become obvious. As opposed to being terrified, Mado embraces the spirit of the abduction and engages in a playful jousting match with the kidnapper, growing to love and cherish their growing bond. There is a completely different interpretation of their actions when the police come upon them. They based this narrative off of a true one.
