The Honorary Consul

Story: Dr. Eduardo Plarr, a doctor who is half English and half Latino, is a main character in the book. He left home to find a better way of life. Along the way, he meets a wide range of people, including British Consul Charley Fortnum, who is trying to stop the Revolution in Latin America. He is also a remorseful drinker. This isn't the only person the doctor meets. Clara is Charley's wife, and the doctor falls in love with her right away.
