In 1930s Korea, a young woman is engaged as a handmaiden for a Japanese heiress who lives on a big country estate with her uncle. But the maid is a pickpocket hired by a swindler acting as a Japanese count to woo the heiress, rob her of her riches, and lock her up in a lunatic asylum.
